Use a bat that is light enough for the player to control.

  • Have a balanced stance with:

hands relaxed
feet spread wider than shoulder width
body facing home plate
face and eyes facing the pitcher
elbows down

  • As the ball comes toward the plate, the player's handsgo directly toward the ball.
  • The back foot turns toward the ball.
  • Eyes stay focused on the ball.
  • The player hits the ball out in front of home plate.
